For the 'Max Gimson' competition, we were asked to create a unique typeface and a front and back cover for Max to be able to use at his exhibitions.I didn't win this competition however, I did come 2nd.

My ‘Gimson’ is a serif typeface mostly influenced by Max’s style of work for ‘the missing act’, but also his very quiet yet intriguing personality. I wanted to create a circus style font as Max has previously mentioned that he’d like the catalogue to feel like a 1940’s theatre. Therefore, I wanted my type to be out there so it compliments his artwork nicely. Within my ‘Gimson’ type I have included decorations from a 1940’s theatre jester hat, as the characters within his artworks are distorted to represent the actors changing for each character every night, therefore the Jesters hats being in each of my letters represents the continuity of the character.
